Awhad had self- quarantined himself along with 15 of his family members for one week after a security worker at his house tested positive for COVID-19. He had taken a test on April 13 but the result turned out to be negative.
It is being conjectured that many other persons may have got infected from the Minister. His contacts since the past few days have been traced and they are also under treatment now.

The senior NCP Minister acts as the representative of Kalwa Mumbra Assembly constituency in the district of Thane, where there is an elevation of coronavirus cases in the last few weeks.

The legislator was suspected of being affected by the novel coronavirus earlier this month after he had an encounter with senior police officer to keep the law and order of the state in place during the lockdown. The officer had executed an operation to get hold of the Tablighi Jamaat attenders in Mumbra and had incarcerated 21 foreign nationals, that included 13 Bangladeshi and 8 Malaysians, after the news of Delhi congregation broke out.

The officer tested positive last week at Nashik, in his hometown. Preliminary tests of the captured Jamaat members came negative. Thus infection of the officer was in doubt, though later it got revealed some residents of the place were affected by the deadly pathogen and may have passed on to the officer.

100 people including Awhad, other policemen from the station, media personnels and many others were tested by the Thane Municipal Corporation after this incident. 90% police staff of the station house have been asked to home quarantine themselves after Awhad tested pot for COVID-19.
